Timothy Olyphant is NOT Agent 47!

I mean actually he is…but he really isn’t…let me explain myself.

Every time I see that damned Hitman movie trailer I tell myself the director could have found a better actor to play the deadly Agent 47. Now don’t get me wrong, I think Olyphant is a very talented actor, I loved him as the cool pimp in “The girl next door” and as the ruthless Bullock from “Deadwood”…but as 47…it’s just doesn’t click. The man isn’t even slightly bald, he has quite a pile of hair on his head, and if you know your Hitman games, you know Agent 47 doesn’t have a single hair on his scalp, it simply doesn’t grow.

I do believe the movie’s going to be somewhat of a blockbuster, the effects look pretty cool, the soundtrack includes that Ave Maria from “Hitman: BloodMoney” and that’s all that matters to me, and, well, they’ve got quite a story to work with, so something’s got to give. Oh and the most important thing, this is NOT a Uwe Boll movie! (Thank God!).

But still I can’t get over the idea that Vin Diesel would have made a so much better hitman. But noooo, he’s trying to evolve as an actor, he wants to play more challenging and complex roles, in more serious films. At least that was the official reason for turning down the part…Hey Vin, Vinnie…you’re Riddick man, you’re Dominic Toretto…the cool action hero, I’m sure you can do comedy, although “The Pacifier” wasn’t all that good, but if I want to see something funny I’ll go see something with Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler, and if I want to cry crocodile tears, Meryl Streep will do the trick. Here’s how I see things, God gave us all the talent to excel in a specific area, we can do other stuff as well but there’s one thing were exceptional at…and for you it’s being a cool action actor, so why throw that away? Anyway, terrible loss, you’d have made a perfect 47.

Now, when Vinnie turned down the part I wonder if the director and producers even bothered to look at another suiting 47, or if they immediately called Olyphant. If I was to choose another actor, it would definitely be Jason Statham. The guy is just as cool as Vin Diesel, he’s got quite a history in action movies, he has that genuine English accent and a very interesting voice tone, and plus he’s really big right now in Hollywood. Not to mention the fact that his face matches 47’s perfectly and he’s almost completely bald. I think he would have made a very credible Agent 47.

And last but certainly not least, everyone’s favorite action hero, the man who didn’t star in Titanic because he would have saved everybody, the one, the only Bruce Willis. Sure some of you may say he’s a little old and he doesn’t have Agent 47’s build but he definitely makes up in charisma and talent. I mean he could act like he did in “Lucky Number Slevin” as Mr. Goodkat and he’d fit quite well. But I’m just speculating here since the studio would pay more for his salary alone than they would on the entire film, but I’m just trying to make a point, there are far better 47’s out there and it’s a pity the director didn’t try harder.

But hey, that’s just the way things are right now and there’s nothing we can do to change them, so let’s just pray the movie’s going to be so awesome, that we won’t notice the 0 resemblance between Agent 47 and Timothy Olyphant.

  1. Why not Mack, the host from future weapons? He has real life experience handling all sorts of weapons, and has the right look.

  2. I completely agree with your picks. Olyphant is a great actor, but I think he was the wrong choice for this role. Jason Statham would have been perfect! Oh well, too late now :(

  3. Personally I think Peter Garret from the band Midnight Oil would have been pretty much perfect.

  4. too bad the movie will be releases as pg-13 instead of R, like originally intended. So expect an early death at the box office

  5. haha, I agree. Olyphant doesn’t look like he would blow heads off, unlike vin diesel. It is a shame he didn’t accept. I don’t know about jason though, he’s sweet and all but he doesn’t look much like agent 47. Bruce willis… Yes, he would’ve been perfect I’d say. Also, that thing you said about Bruce not starring in titanic cause he’d save everyone got me laughing for a good bit. Nice article

  6. Ummm….
That list is curious in that you chose Vin Diesel as your prime candidate.
Due to the fact that the man cannot act for his life and is about as woodena as a tree should sound some alarm bells… How did this make the front page on Digg?

  7. You’re absolutely right. I didn’t too feel comfortable with Timothy Olyphant as The Hitman.

I would have gone with Jason Statham, cause he has the look of a killer.

Bruce Willis, cost’s to much, and might broke while acting because of old age.

Vin Diesel, goddammit I wanna see Riddick again, that antihero, that guy with style of a heat seeking assassin, the guy that shaves his head with a knife made by himself. But noooooo, “I wanna make a comlex movie with lot’s of a drama”… I can’t say, which is better Vin Diesels not-action-movies, or Arnold Swarzenegger ones.

  8. Wow I like Jason in the role. Can see how he would be suited to it for sure!. Failing him I would prefer vinnie.
I wouldnt even consider Bruce though. Interesting :)

  9. When I first heard about Agent 47, the face that instantly sprang to mind was Statham’s - He’d be perfect

    Comment by Bandy | October 15, 2007

  10. Jason Statham would have been perfect actually. When i heard they were making a Hitman movie, the first person who popped into my head was Jason Statham. The only problem i see with him being 47 was people may confuse it too much with the Transporter (as his character in the transporter looks a lot like 47 already)

  11. Jason Statham was named in a gamer magazine awhile back (so I’ve heard) as the number one choice for Agent 47. He turned down the role though. Possibly for it’s too close of a resemblance to his other roles. Though I do agree that Olyphant was a surprising choice for Agent 47, it’s already past and written and we all will just have to wait for the movie’s release.

  12. I COMPLETELY AGREE. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought this. It will be very hard for me to see this film.

Olyphant is too much of a pretty boy, and Agent 47 was a buff and intimidating guy. I’ve seen grade school kids more intimidating than
    Olyphant.

Stratham was my first choice. He would have been perfect for the role.

  13. wow, I totally agree with you here! When I first saw the trailer, I thought the same thing you did, in that Timothy didn’t have the face to go with it. He looked more innocent rather than the deadly killer he is suppose to play. Vin would have been the perfect agent 47, sad to hear that he turned it down…

  14. Unfortunately, they skipped over the most suitable person while Casting the Hitman movie, the original voice actor and the person they modeled 47 after, David Bateson.

Supposedly the reason given for skipping him is that “he wasn’t famous enough” which is a damn shame when you see his acting in scenes like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoTzKbQ1jVU

  15. i agree, Jason Statham could have made an awesume agent 47, but otherwise i hope olyphant makes the movie intresting and isn’t poorly written like so many other games gone movies.

    Comment by Nathan | October 15, 2007

  16. Yes, I agree that Olyphant shouldn’t be the deadly killer. There should be other better choices.

  17. An actor that is somewhat unknown, but I think he could have been great in the role is Derek Mears.

    Comment by maragin | October 15, 2007

  18. Bill Cosby would suit best.

    Comment by Nizamm | October 15, 2007

  19. Jason Statham should have been the first on the list to be asked for the role, if you do a search you’ll find that any time someone brings up who looks like the Hitman, it always …ALWAYS.. ends up being Jason Statham..the guy is perfect for the role.

  20. come on guys give the guy a break, the films not even been released yet. were all discussing hes not the right part but has anyone seen the film. people thought sean connery wasnt going to be a good bond. he was well out of favour from the bond community and well…look now, hes been rated as the best one lol. i think you’ll be surprised!

    Comment by Andrew | October 15, 2007

  21. The only qualification Vin Diesel has for the part is his bald head. His poor acting abilities would do nothing to enhance the idea of games being good script for movies.

    Comment by Bob | October 15, 2007

  22. I hate Olyphant is a terrible choice mostly because of his AGE. Agent 47 is very clearly a middle-aged male. Bruce Willis would be a great alternative to Statham, but I’m sure he commands FAR too high a price tag for a video game movie.

    Comment by coyo7e | October 15, 2007

  23. how can you people overlook billy zane! he looks exactly like 47! the part would have been perfect for him. failing that, i would go with statham, the man is a great actor with an amazing talent for badass roles.

  24. “And last but certainly not least, everyone’s favorite action hero, the man who didn’t star in Titanic because he would have saved everybody, the one, the only Bruce Willis. ”

Oh my god, that’s one of the best things I’ve read in a long time.

  25. DMX would of been perfect, yes I know he isn’t white, but he has the whole shaved head gimmick going and that killer mentality look. He would of been a great Hitman.

    Comment by Huh? | October 16, 2007

  26. I don’t think Olyphant is a good choice either, I’ll still be going to check out the movie when it comes out. Even though I’m often disappointed I still like to support the video game based movies that come out

    Comment by ThatGirl | October 17, 2007

  27. I disagree. Why Olyphant doesn’t exactly fit the looks for the role, he certainly has talent. The same cannot be said for Vin Diesel. And Agent 47 is also not a muscular guy like Vin Diesel. It would have been just another xXx. Bruce Willis? I love Bruce Willis, but he is much too aged. Jason Statham is the only other one that might have done well, although I don’t think he’s as good of an actor as Olyphant. Just my opinion.

  28. DUDEEE YOURE ABSOLUTLEY RIGHT!! ive been saying that same thing , i saw the trailer on stage 6 exited, i said i wonder who they choose to play 47 role.. and when i saw that pimp dude from the girl next door, i was tottally dissapointed, in fact i will download the movie from the internet and i will not buy the original dvd, nor go to the cinema as a sign of protest against bad ass casting makers..

    Comment by valzaq | October 25, 2007

  29. All of these choices should be second to, oh, I don’t know… DAVID BATESON? The guy who does the voice and who Agent 47’s character model is based upon in the games? I don’t know how well he can act on screen; I’ve never seen him in any of his other stuff, but the sheer fact that none of the other actors look or sounds remotely like him means that he’d sure be pretty damned high up there on my list for an accurate representation of the game.

    Comment by Keenan | November 1, 2007

  30. U r completely right about that. I like playing Hitman 47. It would be great to have Vin back in the movie. I can’t forget how cool he acted as Riddick. Just wanna see it one more time.
