Nintendo helps bust counterfeiters

A raid organized by the local police and ordered by the Honk Kong High Court, discovered 10,000 products used to play pirated Nintendo software, the Japanese company declared.

Nintendo representatives uncovered numerous game copying devices and modification chips from Supreme Factory Ltd. facilities. Nintendo has now taken legal action against this company as well as against Divineo SARL, a French company who was allegedly involved in the counterfeiting.

Until all legal proceedings have been concluded, the accused companies have been prohibited from doing any business.

Jody Daugherty, of Nintendo of America, said the following: “Piracy affects the entire video-game industry. It can destroy years of hard work by a team of very talented software developers, who try to create games consumers enjoy playing. Copying the developers’ work and spreading the game files globally is blatant stealing.”

Nintendo and the companies that create software for its systems, lost an estimated $762 millions due to counterfeiting in 2006.
