New modchip for the DS

Nintendo has their work cut out for them because their success also has a dark side, piracy has its eye on the successful Japanese company and a new chip that bypasses the DS’ security system has been released.

The R4 chip costs somewhere around $50 and since its launch it has become one of the most sought after products in Tokyo’s Akihabara electronics district. The strangest part is that the chip itself is not illegal, but playing illegal software by using it, is. So Nintendo hasn’t got too many options but to keep a close eye on how the situation develops and try to come up with a new security system.

Here’s what some of the signs in the retailers’ windows write concerning the R4: “New R4 shipment has finally arrived! You know what it does! Absolutely no questions will be answered concerning this product” or “”Guaranteed for one week only! Of course we can’t explain what it will do…”.

Ain’t piracy a bitch!
