LAIR bites?

As one of PS 3’s most anticipated games of 2007, LAIR had a lot of impressing to do, and judging from the trailers and the gameplay movies released by the developers, LAIR had it all. But apparently this is just another “don’t judge a book by its cover” situations.
I haven’t had a chance to play the game yet, but the word on the net is the game is a total letdown. Except for Play Magazine, who is well known for the high scores they give, practically all the game sites that reviewed LAIR mopped the floor with it. I was surprised to tell you the truth, the game seemed pretty original, you don’t get many dragon flying simulators these days, the graphics looked good, story sounded interesting, all that was left for the developers was nailing the controls.

And that’s exactly what they didn’t. Controlling a huge flying reptile is supposed to be difficult some of you may say, but according to all the reviewers it’s close to impossible, especially because of the tight maneuvering that needs to be done. The game consists in a lot of steering through tight canyons, dodging the fire of ground and marine units and that of defense towers and in order to survive a tight control was just mandatory. Unfortunately Factor 5 buried its creation by concentrating too much on the game’s graphics and totally neglecting the gameplay.

But too tell you the truth I’ll try the game on despite of the bad publicity, I was impressed by it since it was first announced and I want to see if it’s really that bad…hope not.
