GTA fans across the globe, rejoice! The game you’ve all been waiting for is finished and ready to meet its April 29 deadline. Here’s what Take-Two top man Strauss Zelnick said at the company’s annual general meeting yesterday: “Trucks are rolling next week and there will be a lot of them”. So the GTA IV is hitting retailers soon, keep your eyes open, you might steal yourself a copy.

Pre-registrations for Rockstar Social Club have also been opened, so you’ll soon be able to record your stats in different Rockstar games, as well as compete to break other players’ records.

Hell’s Highway coming in August

Gearbox’s latest entry in the Brothers in Arms series finally gets a release date, and it’s not as bad as we thought.

After first being announced in April 2006 for a holiday release of that same year, developers pushed back the game for the last part of 2007, but it didn’t come out last year either, and although a new release was scheduled for early 2008, all we got was another delay, for fiscal year 2009 (which basically meant sometime between April 1, 2008 – March 31, 2009).

Fortunately we won’t have to wait until 2009 to experience more tactical FPS combat in the same WWII setting, or at least that’s what the latest trailer says. It hints towards an August release and this time I hope Gearbox mean it.

The game is being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the good-old PC.

Afro Samurai slashes on PS3 and 360 in fall

Afro Samurai finally gets its already long announced video-game and it’s being developed by Namco Bandai, in the spirit of the manga and anime series.

Samuel L. Jackson will star in the game as Afro, the second-best samurai in the world, out to seek revenge for his father being killed by justice, a powerful fighter who cannot be killed by conventional means. So it will be up to the players to chase this Justice and his minions throughout a medieval imaging of Japan and leaving a bloody trail.

The game’s graphics will be cell-shaded, which I think befits it very well and you’ll be glad to know it’s going to have an M rating, which means you’ll enjoy plenty of bloodshed, dismemberments and beheadings.

As in the short anime series, the soundtrack will have hip-hop influences and it will be produced by Wu-Tang Clan veteran RZA. Music will have a great role in Afro Samurai, influencing the enemy AI and the gameplay (kind of like in Samurai Champloo?) says Namco Bandai.

Afro Samurai will be out in the US for the PS3 and Xbox 360, this fall.

Bourne Conspiracy demo out in May

A demo for the highly anticipated action game will be released sometime next month, according to CVG.

American Xbox 360 owners rejoice, a demo for The Bourne Conspiracy will hit Xbox Live Marketplace next month, says Vivendi. No dates have been revealed for Europe but it’s expected it will come a bit later, considering the game will first release in the US. Also nothing confirmed for the PlayStation Network either, strange.

The Bourne Conspiracy promises to be a mega crossover between the Bourne books and all the motion pictures, which should make for an interesting game…hopefully.

Retailers struggling with huge GTA IV demand

Well GTA IV must be a God-sent gift to all the video-games retailers in the world, as it looks like it will be the best selling video-game of 2008.

Several retailers have admitted that they are surely going to struggle to meet consumer demands when Rockstar’s GTA IV launches, on April 29. However, if you’re one of the lucky few that have preordered the limited edition version of Grand Theft Auto 4, you shouldn’t worry, retailers promise you will get your hands on a copy on day one. For the many who have preordered the standard version, the news aren’t that good- you may not be able to play GTA IV as soon as you’d wish.

Here’s what GAME had to say on the matter: “We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April. We are currently sold out of this item. All orders will be dispatched on a first come, first served basis.”

Gamestation continues on the same note: “Due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version.”

With some analysts predicting GTA IV will sell up to six million copies in its first week, all this shouldn’t come as a surprise…aftar all Karl Lagerfeld is going to be in it :)

Microsoft Police punishes Gamescore cheaters

xbox_live.jpgToday will be a bad day for all those who have tried to cheat on their Xbox Live Gamescores, Microsoft announced they will finally get what they deserve.

Microsoft announced that it will take serious action against those who have tampered with their scores and achievements. Their scores will be reset to zero and to make it a little humiliating, they will be labeled as cheaters on Xbox.com and on their gamecards.

Here is what cheaters can expect from Microsoft Police:

  • Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
  • The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does
  • The account will be clearly labelled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com. You can see an example here. The personal view of the gamercard will be labelled as well.

Xbox 360 sales increase after price cut

360_arcade.jpgAs analysts predicted, a price-cut was indeed what the 360 needed to keep itself in the battle for the title of most successful next generation console.

UK hardware and software tracker, ChartTrack announced that according to their results, Xbox 360 sales have risen by over a third, just days after Microsoft decided to go ahead with a price cut.

ChartTrack director, Dorian Bloch said: “Microsoft will be especially pleased to see that the overall hardware market was down - that’s every format except PS3, which saw a very slight six per cent rise.”

It will be interesting to see if sales numbers will continue to climb, but it is expected they will, with the 360 Arcade’s price now below that of the Nintendo Wii. Microsoft better pray this price cut allows it to keep up with the PS3 and Wii, especially now that Sony is really enjoying its momentum.

Two Worlds gets sequel

two_worlds.jpgOne of the few Eastern-European developed game that actually enjoyed some success on an international level, Two Worlds will be getting a sequel.

Two Worlds: The Temptation is already the top priority of SouthPeak Games, it’s a story sequel to the original game, set in the regions surrounding Oswaroh and the Drak’ar Desert. The Temptation will improve on the combat system, horseback riding and graphics.

We’ve taken to heart all the comments made by gamers about Two Worlds and we’re going to give them what they want with the sequel.” says Miroslaw Dymek, Chief Developer for Reality Pump.

Does the 360 need a price cut?

xbox_360.jpgThat’s what simExchange market analyst, Jesse Divnich, thinks, after analyzing the latest NPD figures.

In Divnich’s opinion, the PS3 is definitely gaining momentum, and Microsoft better come up with a solution soon, otherwise the 360 could lose the console war in the long run. “Whether there is an Xbox 360 shortage or not, it is clear that the PS3 has gained considerable ground on its rival. Given these past two months and the momentum that the PS3 has gained, Microsoft must react quickly as the PS3’s momentum will only get stronger until Microsoft reacts.”

And in his opinion Microsoft surest bet would be a price cut for its hardware: “In the short-term, Microsoft’s only feasible and economical option is to look at reducing its hardware price in North America to at least slow down the PS3’s momentum until it can implement more long-term solutions to winning the next-generation console war.”

I’m not sure how important this analyst’s opinion really is, but one thing is for sure, the tides are turning and Microsoft has to react fast.

Mortal Kombat 8 comes out 2008

mk8.jpgNot that everyone still plays Mortal Kombat these days, but I just thought you’d like to know.

During a recent conference call with Midway’s investors, top man David Zuckner leaked the info that a new Mortal Kombat game is coming out this year. Here are his exact words:

“…our focus really is not so much on the number of games as it is on creating games that are going to breakthrough and doing a better job of that historically.

“Games like This Is Vegas and of course you got Mortal Kombat game this year and others that we think have potential to give us higher unit numbers.”

The game will be powered by an Unreal 3 engine and it will launch for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Last MK game I played was Trilogy, haven’t touched it since then, there are far better games on the market right now.

CoD4 beats Halo3 on Xbox Live

The battle for the title for most popular game on Xbox Live proves to be a hard-fought one as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare manages to steal the crown from Halo 3 once again.

After taking the number one spot on Xbox Live for the first time in January, only to loose it back to Halo 3 after only one week, CoD4 has managed to reclaim its spot at the top, pushing Bungie’s shooter back to second place. Gears of War manages to keep holding on to the last spot on the podium, coming at number 3.

Infinity Ward’s FPS fully deserves its glory as it is one of the best shooters in history and it has one numerous awards, including best game of 2007.
