Silent Hill Origins for PS2

Originally a PSP exclusive, Origins is heading for Sony’s PS2, with improved control.

This prequel to Konami’s horror franchise tells the tale of Travis Grady, a trucker that gets sidetracked to the foggy town of Silent Hill and gets to experience first hand its…unique hospitality.

A release date hasn’t been announced yet but I hope the developers take their time on this one, maybe tweak the controls a little better, especially for the combat situations, that’s where the PSP versions really sucked.

Cheaper, smaller PS2 coming 2008

As we’ve stated on numerous occasions, the Sony PS2 is far from being dead and buried, in fact the Japanese manufacturer is planning to give yet another face-lift and making it more accessible to the public by cutting its current price.

According to an MCV report, this new PS2 model will more compact, will have an in-built power supply and will sell for a retail price of $99 dollars, that’s 30$ less than its current price. The in-built power supply is allegedly what allows Sony to reduce manufacturing costs and the retail price. The redesigned model will be available early next year, maybe right on New Year’s.

PS2 celebrates 7th anniversary

Forgetting its problems, regarding the poor sales of PS3s around the globe, at least for one day, Sony celebrated PS2’s seventh anniversary on Friday. That’s right folks it’s seven years old, which in human years means it is like 70 or 80 years old. And believe it or not it’s still alive and kicking.

The PlayStation 2 is officially the most popular gaming platform ever released, with over 120 million units and more than 2 billion software titles sold worldwide. Those are truly unbelievable figures if you ask me and what’s even more amazing is that it’s still going strong, remaining Sony’s flagship in the video game department. Actually officials from the Japanese giant have declared they plan on developing new software for the PS2 until as far as 2010.

Warriors Orochi

I’ve never really been a fan of Koei’s Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors beat-em up series, I’ve always found them unbelievably boring and totally unappealing. But with this latest Orochi title, I really hoped things would be different…Boy was I wrong!

Basically Warriors Orochi is just more of the same, you taking on infinite numbers of totally harmless enemies, killing some bosses, occasionally escorting a character to the exit point and…well that’s about it. Seriously, if you’re a big fan of the series you’ll love it, if you’re not, don’t get near it.

PlayStation2 a.k.a. the Immortal

In spite of the increasing number of PS3s sold in August this year, Sony is having a very tough time promoting its new generation console. To be honest they could make a bigger effort and cut the price a bit, after all that’s the main reason people don’t get near it. But, instead of lowering the price of their new mean machine and stop being so damn proud, they decided to better promote the old PS2, who everybody said was a dying console, to cut their loses on the new generation front.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed coming to Wii

Fans of Star Wars will be thrilled to know Lucas Arts is launching the next game in the saga next Spring. The Force Unleashed for Nintendo’s new generation console will allow players to use their remote as a light saber and the Nunchuk to execute their Force attacks. It all sounds very intriguing, let’s just hope the developers implement the controls well enough. After all, other games have tried to use the Wii’s unique capabilities and failed miserably.

Godzilla: Unleashed arrives on the PS2

With the slight disappointment that is the PlayStation 3 system, Sony still cashes in on the yet to be declared defunct PS2. With still a large enough number of consoles sold each month, developers haven’t completely forgotten the old platform and are still releasing titles for it. Such is the case of Godzilla: Unleashed.

LAIR bites?

As one of PS 3’s most anticipated games of 2007, LAIR had a lot of impressing to do, and judging from the trailers and the gameplay movies released by the developers, LAIR had it all. But apparently this is just another “don’t judge a book by its cover” situations.

Manhunt 2 receives “M” rating

After it originally received an AO (Adult Only) rating from ESRB, the upcoming horror from Rockstar Games finally got the M rating it needed to release the game in the US.

Because Adult Only games aren’t accepted by the console manufacturers the only place Manhunt 2 could have been launched would have been the PC. And since the game was designed for the Playstation 2, PSP and Nintendo Wii systems, the game would have been a no go.
