The Sims exceeds 100 million sold units

The best selling PC franchise in the history of video games passes the unbelievable 100 million-sold units mark.

EA announced today that the simulator series continues to bring in piles of cash, even though the first game was first released back in 2000. Over this eight years period, The Sims has been translated into 22 different languages and sold in 60 different countries. Unbelievable figures, but not as unbelievable as the $4 billion dollars it cashed in during this time, according to analysts.

Very impressive for a series that only sports 2 core games and a numerous line-up of add-ons and spin-offs. The Sims 3 is scheduled for 2009 and the developers say players will have the chance to freely walk their characters through the neighborhood.

EA said that “If 100 million boxes of The Sims were lined up end-to-end, they would stretch from New York city to Moscow. And, with 100 million sold, one out of seven homes in Europe and one out of three homes in America would have a product of The Sims franchise.”

Way to go Sims!
