Relic has announced that it’s finally begun work on a sequel for the popular RTS series, Warhammer 40.000:Dawn of War.
The sci-fi side of Warhammer is definitely one of my favorite universes and Warhammer 40.000:Dawn of War is right up there with the greatest strategy video-games I’ve ever had the chance to play. And on this happy day, the guys at Relic have made an announcement I have been waiting for some time now, Dawn of War 2 is coming.
The game is developed for the PC only and it’s scheduled to hit retailers across the world, early spring 2009. According to THQ, Dawn of War 2 is “intense action and visceral combat through a non-linear single player experience and a fully co-operative multiplayer campaign.”
Those who bought the most recent expansion to Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War, entitled Soulstorm get special treatment, they will receive invites for the multiplayer beta testing of the sequel.

The highly praised PC space strategy game gets its first expansion pack.
Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock, the game’s publisher revealed that the company is already working on an add-on for Sins of a Solar Empire, during an interview with Wired.
The much-awaited add-on will finally offer gamers a full campaign, a storyline and some new playable factions. It’s exactly what the original game lacked, and considering it got great reviews from all the major gaming sites, I wonder what score this expansion will get. We’ll find out in the “reasonably near future”.

Chris Taylor, head of Gas Powered Games, said current hardware is stalling his plans for the next entry in the Supreme Commander series.
Taylor said “I’ve been told by my engineers that for Supreme Commander 2, I don’t enough memory in a PC with 4Gb of RAM to have more factions.” He continued “We’ll return to the Supreme Commander universe again, but we’ll just have to see when that day is. Maybe when everybody has 64-bit processors…”
I guess we won’t be seeing a full sequel to the acclaimed RTS, and we have only technological progress to blame for that. And here I was thinking technology’s moving at an unbelievable pace.

Petroglyph’s revolutionary sci-fi RTS has been delayed until January 2008, SEGA announced. Of course they tried to turn this into positive news, saying this way the PC and Xbox 360 launches will be closer together.
Originally, the game was supposed to launch on November 2nd for the PC, but apparently things didn’t go as planned so the developers were forced to delay the game.
Universe at War features a very “original” “aliens invade Earth” story and it’s designed as the first installment in an entire saga.

If you want to experience a war and all you have is a PC, you have to try World in Conflict, it’s as close to a real full scale war as you’re going to get from behind a monitor screen. Sierra and Massive Entertainment really went out of their way to create the best tactical simulation ever, and as far as I’m concerned they’ve succeeded wonderfully.

The Total War series are, in this gamer’s opinion, the closest anyone is going to get to a full scale battle in a video game experience. The first time I played Rome: Total War, I was amazed by the game’s complexity, detail and last but not least the easy to use battle controls. Although in order to defeat tough opponents you’d have to come up with a strategy, even for an inexperienced “general” commanding armies was pretty simple and fun. Since then the Total War franchise has improved even more, and the Kingdoms expansion is a fine example of that.
