Mortal Kombat 8 comes out 2008

mk8.jpgNot that everyone still plays Mortal Kombat these days, but I just thought you’d like to know.

During a recent conference call with Midway’s investors, top man David Zuckner leaked the info that a new Mortal Kombat game is coming out this year. Here are his exact words:

“…our focus really is not so much on the number of games as it is on creating games that are going to breakthrough and doing a better job of that historically.

“Games like This Is Vegas and of course you got Mortal Kombat game this year and others that we think have potential to give us higher unit numbers.”

The game will be powered by an Unreal 3 engine and it will launch for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Last MK game I played was Trilogy, haven’t touched it since then, there are far better games on the market right now.

Super Smash Bros. dominates Japan

Super Smash Bros. Brawl managed to sell over 800.000 copies since it was released and helped the Wii sell even better.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl has just been released in Japan last month and it was only the seventh game in history to get a perfect score of 40 out of 40 from Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, so it’s no surprise it is such a big success.

SSBB was the number one game in the Japanese sales charts with 819.647 copies sold, followed by Devil May Cry 4 with 205.390.

Hardware sales charts show the Nintendo Wii is still in first place with 94.473 units sold, followed by the PSP, DS Lite, PS3, PS2 and finally the Xbox 360.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be available in the States starting March 9th, while the Europeans don’t have a release date yet.

Fist of The North Star coming to the DS

For those of you who have never heard of Fist of The North Star, this probably isn’t big news, but for the rest of you this is humongous news.

Yes, it’s true, you’ll soon be able to control Kenshiro as he punches his way on Nintendo’s handheld. The most interesting aspect of the game is not the storyline (which doesn’t make it any less cooler), but the gameplay, which is truly ingenious. Using the stylus, the players will have to tap some highlighted points on the enemies which our hero will then unleash his fists on. The visuals will be manga style, which is, in my opinion, very creative and is sure to attract a large number of the series hardcore fans.

The idea sounds pretty good, it’s now up to the developers to see it through to the end.
