The most anticipated game of 2008 has officially gone gold, Take-Two announced today.
GTA fans across the globe, rejoice! The game you’ve all been waiting for is finished and ready to meet its April 29 deadline. Here’s what Take-Two top man Strauss Zelnick said at the company’s annual general meeting yesterday: “Trucks are rolling next week and there will be a lot of them”. So the GTA IV is hitting retailers soon, keep your eyes open, you might steal yourself a copy.
Pre-registrations for Rockstar Social Club have also been opened, so you’ll soon be able to record your stats in different Rockstar games, as well as compete to break other players’ records.
One last thing, Rockstar is giving out plastic keys to the first ten who complete the game 100%, so get ready.

Everyone’s favorite superhero, Spider-Man, will be swinging back into the video-game business in Activision’s next title, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.
No details have been revealed about this upcoming Spidey title, not even what systems it’s being developed for, but it does have a neat teaser website, seizecontrol.com. As the name suggests, developers are giving players the ability to “control everything”. Although I’m convinced they’re exaggerating with that remark, it seems players will affect the outcome of the game, the way Spider-Man fights his opponents, which of his weapons get upgraded, his allies and the fate of the city of New York.
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is being developed by Activision’s internal studios Treyarch (they’ve worked on a Spider-Man game in the past) and Shaba Games. The game is expected to be released sometime this fall.

Afro Samurai finally gets its already long announced video-game and it’s being developed by Namco Bandai, in the spirit of the manga and anime series.
Samuel L. Jackson will star in the game as Afro, the second-best samurai in the world, out to seek revenge for his father being killed by justice, a powerful fighter who cannot be killed by conventional means. So it will be up to the players to chase this Justice and his minions throughout a medieval imaging of Japan and leaving a bloody trail.
The game’s graphics will be cell-shaded, which I think befits it very well and you’ll be glad to know it’s going to have an M rating, which means you’ll enjoy plenty of bloodshed, dismemberments and beheadings.
As in the short anime series, the soundtrack will have hip-hop influences and it will be produced by Wu-Tang Clan veteran RZA. Music will have a great role in Afro Samurai, influencing the enemy AI and the gameplay (kind of like in Samurai Champloo?) says Namco Bandai.
Afro Samurai will be out in the US for the PS3 and Xbox 360, this fall.

A demo for the highly anticipated action game will be released sometime next month, according to CVG.
American Xbox 360 owners rejoice, a demo for The Bourne Conspiracy will hit Xbox Live Marketplace next month, says Vivendi. No dates have been revealed for Europe but it’s expected it will come a bit later, considering the game will first release in the US. Also nothing confirmed for the PlayStation Network either, strange.
The Bourne Conspiracy promises to be a mega crossover between the Bourne books and all the motion pictures, which should make for an interesting game…hopefully.

Well GTA IV must be a God-sent gift to all the video-games retailers in the world, as it looks like it will be the best selling video-game of 2008.
Several retailers have admitted that they are surely going to struggle to meet consumer demands when Rockstar’s GTA IV launches, on April 29. However, if you’re one of the lucky few that have preordered the limited edition version of Grand Theft Auto 4, you shouldn’t worry, retailers promise you will get your hands on a copy on day one. For the many who have preordered the standard version, the news aren’t that good- you may not be able to play GTA IV as soon as you’d wish.
Here’s what GAME had to say on the matter: “We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April. We are currently sold out of this item. All orders will be dispatched on a first come, first served basis.”
Gamestation continues on the same note: “Due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version.”
With some analysts predicting GTA IV will sell up to six million copies in its first week, all this shouldn’t come as a surprise…aftar all Karl Lagerfeld is going to be in it

One of the most anticipated games of 2008, Star Force: The Force Unleashed finally gets release dates for all major markets.
“Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is one of the most ambitious projects Lucas Arts has ever launched. The combination of a brand new Star Wars storyline with revolutionary new technology and gameplay means more fun than you’ve ever had in the Star Wars universe.” said Peter Hirschmann of Lucas Arts. We finally know when we’ll be able to enjoy all this, September 16 for the USA, September 17 for Southeast Asia and Australia and September 19 for Europe.
It’s about time Lucas Arts came-up with a release date, the game has been in the works for an awfully long time. Now let’s just hope it will be worth the wait.

It seems not even the largest storage disk known to man, the Blu-ray, is enough to contain Hideo Kojima’s latest creation, Metal Gear Solid 4.
In a recent interview the Japanese producer said that MGS4 will push the limits of the PS3 and also the Blu-ray, saying “there simply isn’t enough space”. Not enough space? We’re talking about 50 freakin’ gigabytes and he says there’s no space? There are people out there still using smaller hard-drives on their PCs, but Kojima already wants something bigger.
Kojima previously announced that copies of MGS4 will only feature one voice-over language, rather than packing more on one disk like previous versions, due to storage limitations.

Originally a PSP exclusive, Origins is heading for Sony’s PS2, with improved control.
This prequel to Konami’s horror franchise tells the tale of Travis Grady, a trucker that gets sidetracked to the foggy town of Silent Hill and gets to experience first hand its…unique hospitality.
A release date hasn’t been announced yet but I hope the developers take their time on this one, maybe tweak the controls a little better, especially for the combat situations, that’s where the PSP versions really sucked.

Get ready to unleash Nero’s “Devil Bringer” power as Capcom releases the demo for Devil May Cry 4 on January 24.
Although the demo was announced ever since last year, the exact time it was going to be released remained unknown. At first it was set for January 31st but now it’s official, the demo is coming out on the 24th and will be available for download through the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
The demo doesn’t only contain the first level, as you’d be tempted to believe, but a number of moments of the game, in different locations, focusing on the new character, Nero, and his special power, the “Devil Bringer”.
The full game is expected to arrive on the PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 5th.

Kane & Lynch has managed to sell over 1 million copies since its release in November, announces Eidos. They say they’re not surprised…well I am!
I’m not saying Kane & Lynch is a bad game, it’s…mediocre, I think that best describes this 3rd person shooter that doesn’t really bring anything new to the genre. Many irritating bugs, a story that could have been so much better, unimpressive graphics and a rather basic command system don’t really characterize a box-office success.
But, apparently when it comes to crime themed video-games, gamers are prepared to overlook anything. Just remember Scarface, it was, in my opinion, even worse than Kane & Lynch, and yet it also managed to sell quite well. I’m pretty sure that if it had a proper marketing campaign, even a fluke like Made Man could have become a hit.
It’s obvious the audience is so fascinated by the criminal underworld, a world they could never be a part of in real life, that they don’t really care how good the game really is. Now don’t get me wrong, I love crime-themed games, I’m a big fan of Mafia, an incredible experience in every way, but I just wish they’d spend more time polishing them.
Just for the record, I am also a victim of this “criminal lifestyle illusion” and I’ve also bought Kane & Lynch but…at least I regret it!

Due, in part, to SCI’s recent financial problems, Lara’s upcoming adventure has been pushed back to late 2008.
Unfortunately Lara won’t be back with a new adventure as soon as everybody hoped, Eidos has announced the game has been delayed to this year’s holiday season. SCI, the parent company of Eidos, isn’t doing very well these days, its stock price has dropped dramatically and the company will post an operating loss this year. There have even been rumors of an imminent takeover by Time Warner, Ubisoft and others.
I hope Eidos can get over this slump, and bring us another incredible adventure starring the most charismatic female lead in gaming, Lara Croft.

Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell, two video game series you HAVE to play in order to say you know what tactical stealth shooters are all about, two great games with extremely complex gameplay, interesting storylines and, most of all, charismatic main characters. That’s right, Solid Snake and Sam Fisher, two guys you don’t want sneaking up behind you, two guys that could kill you in several different ways, one cooler than the other, without you even noticing they were close by. I think we can all agree they are both as cool as ice, but of course the natural question emerges: who is the coolest?
