Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare

Call of Duty is definitely one of the most successful game series in the industry. Ever since the first game they’ve managed to keep improving their work to keep gamers satisfied. They succeeded wonderfully even if all previous titles were related to events in World War 2, and that is no small feat if we consider the number of games set in that period of time. But now after 3 successful titles, the Call of Duty franchise moves on to bigger and better things.

After going through all the critical moments of WW2, the producers realized there’s only so much you can do with a historical event that ended a long time ago, and decided to approach the more creative-friendly modern day combat theme. I only have one thing to say: FINALLY! Not that I don’t appreciate what they’ve done so far but quite frankly, that topic was getting to old, and these guys have the potential to do greater things.

And it seems I wasn’t wrong, because Call of Duty 4 is shaping in to another success. From what I’ve been able to gather so far, the game’s story is set in present day, and has you playing as a member of the US Marine Corps elite Force Recon unit and as a member of the British Special Air Service( SAS). The two characters will both be fighting against the same menace, represented by a duo of evil doers, Al-Asad and Zakhaev. The first is planning a coup d’etat in the Middle East while the other is trying to overtake the Russian government by nuclear means. Aside from the game missions themselves it seems you’ll be able to control what happens in some of the game’s cutscenes( this should be interesting). In Modern Warfare you’ll be able to wield weapons like the popular M4A1 rifle or the SAW machinegun, and use machinegun posts and antitank weapons. The “take cover” and “suppress enemy fire” actions will be important factors in the success of your missions, as not all types of structures will provide the same amount of cover. Also stealth is supposed to play a great part in the game…we’ll see. The game’s graphics look amazing, simply amazing and the great thing is, despite all these lavish graphics, the game performs wonderfully, with a more then decent frame rate.

It’s obvious that the game looks promising but we’ll have to wait for the final result to really see how it performs, there’s nothing like a hands-on test. Until it ships out, near the end of this year, we’ll keep you informed.
