Bionic Commando is back

Some of you elderly gamers may remember a 2D game called Bionic Commando released by Capcom in the late 80’s.It was one of the best games of its time, due in part to the innovative grappling system it introduced and now the Japanese publisher is preparing a remake…to serve as a sequel.

In the new, improved version of Bionic Commando players will take the role of a technologically enhanced agent called Nathan Spencer. Our boy is framed and sentenced to be executed after he had shown great bravery in defending his country against a faction called The Imperials. But Fate has more in store for Spencer, so right on the day he is taken to be executed, an experimental weapon is unleashed by terrorists on Ascension City, rendering it to a pile of debris.

With the city in ruins, the very men who convicted Nathan Spencer now turn to him, because of his unique ability to move around in such a difficult environment. Now our agent’s grapple won’t only be useful for navigation, but also for taking out enemies at close range and throwing heavy objects around.

It appears Bionic Commando is a multi-national project with an American producer, a Japanese creative advisor and Swedish game studio GRIN all working together. Until they get the job done here’s a little teaser:
