Best Buy fears Wii mob scenes

Receiving a number of Wiis just in time for Christmas is a real joy and, at the same time, a real problem for retailers across the country, as the people are so desperate for the Nintendo machine, that you don’t know what they’ll do.

So I guess I can understand why some Best Buy shops avoid displaying or announcing their newly received Nintendo Wiis. Dave Wolf, General Manager at a Best Buy near Baltimore, said that he chose not to display any Wii in the shop, in stead employees walk around and tell people they have them in stock. This way they could avoid mob scenes.

Another Best Buy manager practices the policy of no longer announcing they have received Wiis over the intercom, thus preserving the physical integrity of both customers and employees.

Still even though a lucky few were able to get their hands on a Wii just in time for the winter hollydays, the majority are still faced with the same answer every single time: “Check back periodically”.
