2K Czech has finally announced what platforms will support their current project, the long awaited sequel Mafia 2.
Even though, 2K’s situation is a little unclear right now, with EA’s juicy buyout offer, of $2billion hanging in the air until April 18, there’s no need for the company’s studios to stop working on current projects. Still if EA does take over, will they continue developing Mafia 2? It is, after all, stiff competition for their Godfather series.
But until all the corporate business settles down, 2K Czech has announced Mafia 2 is being developed for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I’m sure everyone pretty much expected this, but now it’s official.
Even though, aside from an intriguing trailer and a batch of wallpapers, not much has been revealed about the game, Gamespot managed to find out the game will contain more than 50 vehicles and 10 square miles of unrestricted territory to roam in 1950’s NYC.

In a time when video-games are accused of instigating to violence, from all sides, they find an unlikely ally in Stephen King.
In a piece written for Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King admits video-games “are not my thing” but also objects on how they are being blamed by politicians and the media. “What really makes me insane is how eager politicians are to use the pop culture, not just video games but TV, movies, even Harry Potter–as a whipping boy.” He continues: “But what makes me crazy is when politicians take it upon themselves to play surrogate parents. The results of that are usually disastrous. Not to mention undemocratic.”
“Games only reflect a violence that already exists in the society,” says King “there’s a lot more to America’s culture of violence than Resident Evil 4.” I can’t help but agree with that.
He also points out the use of ratings as a means of protecting the young against violence and other aspects that might harm them “”I do, however, want to point out that video games, like movies, have a ratings system, and ones with the big M or A on the box mean ‘Not for you, baby brother.”

With all the talk about acquisitions in the video-games industry, you’d think SEGA would at least consider the thought of being acquired, but that’s not the case.
In an interview with Reuters, SEGA representatives said they are aware of what’s going on at the top of the industry, with the merger between Activision and Blizzard, The Bioware-Pandemic acquisition by EA and now it’s attempt of acquiring Take-Two, but it wants no part of it.
“We’re moving very nicely up the charts but we are also very cognizant of what is happening at very top end of market, with regards to some of the M&A activity. That’s not an area we want to play in right now. We have no interest in being acquired, we are very happy with our position right now.” said Simon Jeffrey, president of SEGA of America.
Jeffrey also added: “There is plenty of room for smaller companies to be successful and profitable in this business. You don’t have to be number one or number two. You can be number six very happily.” SEGA is currently the sixth moth important video-game publisher in America, by revenue.

As we’ve stated on numerous occasions, the Sony PS2 is far from being dead and buried, in fact the Japanese manufacturer is planning to give yet another face-lift and making it more accessible to the public by cutting its current price.
According to an MCV report, this new PS2 model will more compact, will have an in-built power supply and will sell for a retail price of $99 dollars, that’s 30$ less than its current price. The in-built power supply is allegedly what allows Sony to reduce manufacturing costs and the retail price. The redesigned model will be available early next year, maybe right on New Year’s.

Based on the popular Warhammer table-top game, Age of Reckoning was scheduled for release in March of next year, but now the title is to be released as late as September 2008. I don’t know what the boys at Mythic Entertainment are doing but it’s definitely not good.

Norse mythology is becoming more and more popular these days, after this year’s Loki, Sega announces VIKING: Battle for Asgard, a title that introduces players to the brutal and exciting world of the Vikings and their Gods. Although Norse culture has been approached before in the video games industry, the Vikings themselves have been wrongfully neglected in recent years, at least in this gamer’s opinion.

After it originally received an AO (Adult Only) rating from ESRB, the upcoming horror from Rockstar Games finally got the M rating it needed to release the game in the US.
Because Adult Only games aren’t accepted by the console manufacturers the only place Manhunt 2 could have been launched would have been the PC. And since the game was designed for the Playstation 2, PSP and Nintendo Wii systems, the game would have been a no go.

2K Games (finally) announced they are working on a sequel to the worldwide success title Mafia. You must remember Mafia, it was the game that practically introduced the gangster genre to gaming, and it did it with style.
Mafia 2 promises to be even better than its predecessor, although I don’t see what anyone can improve on, maybe just come up with something new. The game will be set in the same time period as the first installment , the 1940’s early 1950’s when the mob ruled the streets and the underworld.

It is if you ask the guys at EDGE UK who gave it a “generous” 6/10…yes fellow gamers, that long awaited ray of hope for the PS 3 turns out to be just a fairly decent game in these guys’ opinion. Well I choose not to abandon hope just yet, I expect great things from Ninja Theory’s action game and I won’t let some guy who’s motives I don’t even understand, ruin everything for me.
