Chris Taylor, head of Gas Powered Games, said current hardware is stalling his plans for the next entry in the Supreme Commander series.
Taylor said “I’ve been told by my engineers that for Supreme Commander 2, I don’t enough memory in a PC with 4Gb of RAM to have more factions.” He continued “We’ll return to the Supreme Commander universe again, but we’ll just have to see when that day is. Maybe when everybody has 64-bit processors…”
I guess we won’t be seeing a full sequel to the acclaimed RTS, and we have only technological progress to blame for that. And here I was thinking technology’s moving at an unbelievable pace.

The partnership between Amazon and Rockstar will make it possible for players to purchase any GTA IV’s 150 in-game songs, using an exclusive shopping cart at Amazon.com
The service, called ZiT (that’s nasty), will allow players to save favorite songs, heard on the numerous in-game radios, for future download. They can mark their favorites by using Nico’s cell-phone and, if they are registered members of Rockstar’s recently announced Social Club, they can download the songs via an exclusive shopping card at Amazon.com.
Exclusive GTA IV tracks will cost $.99 and will be free of any DRM restrtictions.

Take-Two’s board unanimously rejected EA’s buyout offer saying it’s just not good enough.
It seams that EA’s offer of $26 per share wasn’t exactly what Take-Two expected so they decoded to refuse any deal saying the offer was inadequate “in multiple respects and contrary to the best interests of Take-Two’s stockholders”.
However Take-Two has declared it will review its options right after GTA 4 is launched, and that the company is “considering strategic alternatives in order to be prepared to engage in discussions with any parties, including EA, interested in a strategic business combination” It’s clear to everyone that Take-Two’s capability of still operating on its own, depends on GTA 4’s success.
Personally I don’t think EA is interested in a merger with Take-Two at this moment, but we’ll just have to wait and se how it turns out.

Epic’s graphics engine has to be the most popular video-games engine ever developed and it’s about to become even more popular.
Unreal Engine 3 is definitely the most well known of Epic’s graphics engine series, being used in hit shooters like Gears of War or BioShock, but their technology has been successfully implemented in RPGs like Mass Effect and the recent Lost Odyssey, from Mistwalker.
Well, now Unreal technology is about to be tested in a whole new universe, the MMO universe. NC Soft has announced it will be using the engine in two new MMO games. It’s not the first time either, games like Lineage 2 or the soon-to-be-released Exteel are powered by Unreal Engine 2.
So now, even if the games suck, we know they’ll look great!

After signing deals with developers like NC Soft, THQ, Take Two, Midway and Eidos, in-game ad developer, Double Fusion, strikes a deal with Gearbox.
The games specified in the deal haven’t been made public but Gearbox offers a lot of games to choose from: Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Borderlands, Heat and Samba de Amigo.
“We’re incredibly focused on authenticity and we believe our partnership with Double Fusion and their advertising partners will allow our game worlds to have all the plausibility of the real world. The advertisers, in turn, bring value that will enable us to invest even more in creating the best possible video game experiences.” said David Eddings, vice-president of licensing at Gearbox.

Today will be a bad day for all those who have tried to cheat on their Xbox Live Gamescores, Microsoft announced they will finally get what they deserve.
Microsoft announced that it will take serious action against those who have tampered with their scores and achievements. Their scores will be reset to zero and to make it a little humiliating, they will be labeled as cheaters on Xbox.com and on their gamecards.
Here is what cheaters can expect from Microsoft Police:
- Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
- The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does
- The account will be clearly labelled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com. You can see an example here. The personal view of the gamercard will be labelled as well.

The rumors have been confirmed, Ubisoft is really attacking the MMO market using Clancy’s name as its secret weapon.
After acquiring all the rights to the author’s name, the French developer decided to use his popularity as a launching pad for its new MMO project. “Having no fees, it’s going to give us a full return, [so] we’ve really decided now to go for an MMO on the Clancy name, which is big” said Yves Guillermot, the boss of Ubisoft.
Guillermot estimated that the Clancy MMO would cost between $40 million and $50 million to make and added that the company “has the technology to create MMOs… We have lots of games in the Clancy franchise that are already multiplayer. So to create an MMO, we need to have larger teams to actually spend the time to create it.”

Ubisoft’s latest entry in the popular Rainbow Six series is doing really good in the sales department.
By shipping 1 million units just one week since launch, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 proves that Ubisoft made a great business decision when it acquired all the rights to Tom Clancy’s name. It’s not very surprising as the series is well known and Vegas 2 has gotten really great reviews from the major gaming sites (an average of 83% on GameRankings).
This proved Clancy’s games are a strong drive of Ubisoft’s business and may have been the reason for the company greenlighting the MMO set in a Tom Clancy universe.

Get ready to upgrade your PS3 to version 2.20, here some of its crucial features:
- Full playlist support via PSP
- 2gb+ DivX and WMV files are now playable, along with DivX subtitle support.
- Resume play for DVD/Blu-ray discs (this is my favorite new feature), no more re-starting a movie from the beginning, this will allow you to stop a disc and resume it right where you left off previously.
- Your PSP can now be used as a remote control of sorts for PS3 media playback.
- Faster web browser
- ‘Save Target As’ option gives you broader hard drive save options when saving items directly from web pages.
- And the main update feature: BD-Live, which allows Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 support, allowing your movies to connect to the internet to download additional content and features.
It’s a little on the long side, so if you don’t have a powerful Internet connection, I suggest you start downloading, it’s going to take a while.

Video-games developers like ID Software or Nerve Software acknowledge that consoles are a force to be reckoned with.
Not even hardcore PC fans can ignore the power of the increasingly popular gaming consoles. ID Software’s Steve Nix had this to say in his interview with Eurogamer: “I know that I have friends who are considered core gamers, who years ago were just keyboard and mouse guys - now, when a game ships on all platforms, they buy the console version, even though the PC version is sitting there and they have a PC that would run it perfectly well. It’s just their preference.”
Greg Stone, designer for Nerve Software, says he used to be one of the gamers Nix talked about, but he has recently been enslaved by consoles: “It’s so much money to keep up with the bleeding edge of technology on the PC, and it really just is easier to take a console and say, well, this is good enough,” he said.
Sure top notch PC owners still enjoy better graphics than any console can offer at the moment, but it’s way to hard to keep up with technology and even worse, what good are top level graphics if you don’t have any games to play?

As analysts predicted, a price-cut was indeed what the 360 needed to keep itself in the battle for the title of most successful next generation console.
UK hardware and software tracker, ChartTrack announced that according to their results, Xbox 360 sales have risen by over a third, just days after Microsoft decided to go ahead with a price cut.
ChartTrack director, Dorian Bloch said: “Microsoft will be especially pleased to see that the overall hardware market was down - that’s every format except PS3, which saw a very slight six per cent rise.”
It will be interesting to see if sales numbers will continue to climb, but it is expected they will, with the 360 Arcade’s price now below that of the Nintendo Wii. Microsoft better pray this price cut allows it to keep up with the PS3 and Wii, especially now that Sony is really enjoying its momentum.

After the “Kane & Lynch review” incident, when Jeff Gestermann was fired by the video-games website, editors have calling the quits, one after another.
Now it’s time for Brad Shoemaker to throw in the towel and leave GameSpot after 8 years of collaborations. He announced that he will still keep a Blogspot blog to keep his fans informed about his future endeavors.
It’s funny how things turned out for GameSpot isn’t it? They chose to part ways with one of their top editors over money basically and never even considered the others will stand by their colleague and preserve their journalistic integrity. Good for them!
I hope Shoemaker joins Gestermann over at GiantBomb.
