As we’ve stated on numerous occasions, the Sony PS2 is far from being dead and buried, in fact the Japanese manufacturer is planning to give yet another face-lift and making it more accessible to the public by cutting its current price.
According to an MCV report, this new PS2 model will more compact, will have an in-built power supply and will sell for a retail price of $99 dollars, that’s 30$ less than its current price. The in-built power supply is allegedly what allows Sony to reduce manufacturing costs and the retail price. The redesigned model will be available early next year, maybe right on New Year’s.

Yesterday, leading gaming website, Gamespot.com, posted some news regarding a possible MMORPG set in the Elder Scrolls universe. Although the facts can’t prove that such a project is in the works, it’s enough to keep the rumor going.
The most important hint that Bethesda is planning on taking its popular RPG series online, is the registration of a domain named elderscrollsonline.com, by Zenimax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks. Even though the URL is inactive at the moment, it’s possible that the MMO, Bethesda has announced is working on, could be set in the Elder Scrolls realm of Tamriel.

The Soulcalibur beat’em-up series is, in my opinion, the best fighting franchise ever developed, but to tell you the truth I’ve always wondered what it would be like as an action-adventure game. With the upcoming Soulcalibur Legends for the Nintendo Wii, my question is about to be answered.

Electronic Arts executives have revealed that Warhammer Online, the company’s ambitious MMO project has been delayed once again.
Based on the popular Warhammer table-top game, Age of Reckoning was scheduled for release in March of next year, but now the title is to be released as late as September 2008. I don’t know what the boys at Mythic Entertainment are doing but it’s definitely not good.

Disney Interactive has announced that its remake of classic first person shooter, Turok, will also be available for the PC, soon after its release for the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms.
For those of you that haven’t heard or haven’t had the chance to play the original Turok, it was a mediocre FPS, in which you played the role of bad-ass Joseph Turok as he wondered around a jungle-like environment, shooting human and dinosaur enemies. Didn’t really impress me back then, but judging by the screenshots I’ve seen so far, the remake may turn to actually be good.

There’s always been some serious rivalry between these two football (soccer for you yanks) series and this year makes no exception. Quality wise, the question of which is the best is very hard to answer (although I must say I love Konami’s game, it brings some serious improvements to the genre), but in terms of sales…well numbers tell no lies.
According to Chart Track, although released later than EA’s Fifa 08, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is leading the way. After a great start, when its Xbox 360 version sold better, Fifa 08 fell behind, as the PES 2008 for the PS2 climbed in the number one spot with over 40% of total video game sales. If we count Fifa’s 30% we can definitely say football is a serious business in the United Kingdom.

Playing Halo 3 is a very dangerous business, and not only for all the brutes and Master Chiefs you kill in the game, but also for members of your family. At least that’s what this story says, anyway…

One of the most anticipated video-games of this Fall, the 3rd person shooter, Kane & Lynch will be available almost a week earlier than originally announced.
British publisher, Eidos Interactive has announced that the game will hit retailer shelves on November 14, instead of November 20, the date it was first scheduled to come out. This is probably a good strategy by Eidos, since November 20 is going to be a very busy day, with the launches of Mass Effect, Rock Band and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Let’s face it they don’t really need that kind of competition…so if it’s possible, why not speed things up and get a head start.

Even though the action-adventure game isn’t even out yet, the people at Naughty Dog have already confirmed it will be definitely be getting a sequel.
Co-president of Naughty Dog game studios, Christophe Balestra has confirmed that will start working on a sequel to Drake’s Fortune as soon as the game is released: “Crash was a franchise, Jak & Daxter was a franchise and yes of course Uncharted will be a franchise. It takes a lot of effort to create a universe like Uncharted and there is so much more we want to do. It would be a waste if we didn’t have a sequel to make it even better than the first one.”

Electronic Arts has just signed an agreement with the young Formula 1 prodigy, which allows them to use his name for a game they are already working on and that is due to come out next year.
The British Formula 1 driver has reportedly received £5 million for this deal, which in my opinion is a huge amount of money, for a future game that almost certainly will not be a Formula 1 racing video-game. That’s because at the moment Sony holds the FIA official license exclusively for any Formula 1 titles.
