Yes, that’s right people, the world got a little dumber these days when Chinese MMORPG provider Aurora Inc decided to just block roughly 17.000 male players with female characters out of a Chinese MMO called King of the World. No particular reason has been given for this radical act, which makes it even more despicable.
Sure we all know the Chinese cultural taboos and this may be one explanation but still it doesn’t justify it or anything. And now, all the actual women playing as women, have to present themselves via webcam when they log in, as gender evidence. Wow… playing an MMO used to be simpler than this. And talk about a dumb idea, using webcams, maybe I have a sister, or a good friend and I ask her to take the gender confirmation test…it still doesn’t solve anything.

After dismissing an article in the Financial Times from last week, claiming the Japanese developer is looking for publishing allies in the U.S. and Europe to help boost the company’s revenues, Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada issued an official statement.
Wada contradicted the article, saying Square Enix already receives more than 50% of total revenues from foreign markets, and not only 20% as the paper said. The company’s top man also said they are indeed focusing more on the foreign markets, because they acknowledge that the size of over-seas markets is continuously expanding. Square Enix has apparently come up with a 3 to 5 years plan to expand their foreign revenues from the current 50% to 75%. That means 3 out of 4 dollars will come from foreign affairs.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Bloodrayne, it was a mediocre action game, with a hot, leather dressed lead, called Rayne. She was a half vampire who’s only purpose in life was to suck as much blood from Nazi throats as time would allow her. I didn’t particularly like the game, I found it very repetitive, but when I first heard they were doing a film based on it, I thought to myself: Hey this might work! I mean the story had some potential and mixed with some neat special effects it could have really been an exciting action flick. Unfortunately a certain Uwe Boll had other plans.

Gamasutra announces British publisher SCI, who has acquired Eidos Studios in 2005, has recorded a loss of $60.8 million in the fiscal year that ended on July 30 2007. Apparently the high price of Sony’s next generation console is partly to blame.

With Eidos Interactive announcing they will launch their 3rd person shooter Kane&Lynch: Dead Men on November 20, the last month of Fall 2007 has officially become the most eagerly awaited period of time by gamers everywhere. Sure if you look at the number of games shipping out, there’s nothing special about it, actually I think there are more games released in October, but if you look at the titles, you’ll understand why it’s so special.

Eidos Interactive announced its highly anticipated 3rd person shooter will blast its way on to retailer shelves in North America on November 20. The sadistic duo will be unleashed on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Apparently the people over at Eidos are really competitive, since they’ve chosen to share a release dates with two other presumed to be console blockbusters: Mass Effect and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Also Rock Band may also come out on the same date, so it’s safe to say November 20 is a date we’ll remember for a long time. If not because of the great games, because of the money we’ve spent on them.

Microsoft must be really proud of how their expensive and aggressive promotion campaign for Halo 3 turned out. And they should be, their creation is breaking records in the entire entertainment industry, not only in gaming, now that’s something!
After breaking all game pre-order records, Halo 3 has done it again, cashing in at over $170 million on the first day, in the U.S. alone. That’s more than this summer’s blockbusters like Spider-man 3 or the new Harry Potter managed to make. Some say it’s only normal since the cheapest version of Halo 3 is more expensive than any ticket to these movies, but I tend to disagree. Movies have a larger array of viewers, whereas video games rely mostly on the young male category. So that makes this accomplishment even more amazing.

Even though the Nintendo DS is still handheld king in the far-east, Sony’s new handheld model is making a comeback. According to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, since the new software launch two weeks ago, Sony has sold 250.702 PSP Slim units. And the Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core special edition was also very well received by the public, selling over 75.000 units. That comes to a grand total of 325.000 units sold so far.
Sure we can’t be talking about a close competition between the Nintendo DS and the new PSP Slim, but if Sony’s handheld keeps selling this way, it might become a worthy opponent. Time will tell.

Codemasters has released a small demo for its upcoming FPS survival-horror, Clive Barker’s Jericho. The demo is very short, only 10 minutes of actual gameplay, but then again that’s a demo’s purpose, to leave you hungry for more.

Eidos’ 3rd person shooter seems to look even more amazing with each trailer I see. This is definitely one of my most anticipated games. I’ve always been a fan of 3rd person shooters, ever since I first played Max Payne, and Kane & Lynch seems to also have really strong characters and an interesting plot.

After months and months of sales domination on the consoles market, Nintendo manages to break yet another record and become the company with the second-highest value in Japan. That’s a pretty big deal for any company but an ever bigger deal for one who’s specialized in building game consoles.
The steady domination in the battle for the best selling gaming system skyrocketed Nintendo’s stock price ever since the Wii was released, and this year, after reaching a yearly low price of 247$ in January, the company’s shares have steadily gone up to an all time high in July, 536$ per stock. And although August brought a slight decrease , due to the dollar-yen fluctuations, after the CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets specialists raised Nintendo’s price target at about 870$, the shared went up again.

Wow, this is one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a while, the people over at Ubisoft have really created a graphical masterpiece. The voice acting was pretty impressive as well and even if the trailer isn’t action-packed it’s really intriguing. Assassin’s Creed moved up a position in my most anticipated games.

If you want to experience a war and all you have is a PC, you have to try World in Conflict, it’s as close to a real full scale war as you’re going to get from behind a monitor screen. Sierra and Massive Entertainment really went out of their way to create the best tactical simulation ever, and as far as I’m concerned they’ve succeeded wonderfully.

If you weren’t lucky enough to watch MGS producer Hideo Kojima do his live presentation at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, don’t worry, we got you covered.
The now legendary Koj, spoke a lot about his latest creation, Metal Gear Solid 4, the game’s plot, the new bosses, the supporting characters and of course, the leading man, Solid Snake. Everyone lucky enough to be present at Konami’s MGS 4 presentation area received a pretty thick 50 page booklet, featuring details about MGS 4, artwork, interviews, development issues and most importantly, new storyline clues.

In spite of the increasing number of PS3s sold in August this year, Sony is having a very tough time promoting its new generation console. To be honest they could make a bigger effort and cut the price a bit, after all that’s the main reason people don’t get near it. But, instead of lowering the price of their new mean machine and stop being so damn proud, they decided to better promote the old PS2, who everybody said was a dying console, to cut their loses on the new generation front.
